About this Event
A collaboration with island-based creatives, The Understory Project sheds light on Waiheke’s transformation from a once barren landscape of sheep farms to the locus of conservation action. Native birds are flocking back to the island as community groups control weeds and pests, and replant natives.
The Waiheke Community Art Gallery will host an interactive exhibition with paintings, sculptures, photography, soundscapes and nature journals. These works will help you see and experience Waiheke through the eyes of local artists and makers. There will also be an opportunity for you to create nature-inspired works on paper in a dedicated Makerspace in the Gallery. Through The Understory Project, you’ll gain insights into the human and ecological history of the island, the groups spearheading conservation, and how nature on Waiheke is explored, interpreted and celebrated.
Note: This exhibition will continue until May 4
