SUMMARY:Coastal Flyers: Sunset walk at Mercer Bay
DESCRIPTION:Join BirdCare Aotearoa whānau for a guided hīkoi (walk) along Te Unuhanga ō Rangitoto (Mercer Bay loop). This is a special place for our mana whenua Te Kawerau ā Maki\, and we often take sunset walks along this track to release nocturnal seabirds above the cliffs. \nThis conservation-focused adventure will embrace the coastline\, as we share the importance of nocturnal navigation and dark sky protection. March-May is our peak season for light-impacted seabird rehabilitation; depending on patient recoveries\, the icing on the cookie may be a petrel release! \nFundraiser to support the rehabilitation of absolutely protected seabirds at BirdCare Aotearoa\, a native bird hospital. Learn about our recovery of numerous taonga- including Cook’s\, Grey-faced\, Black\, and Blue petrels\, which we return to the moana from these cliffs. $40 per person. Recommended age: 10+ \nBring warm gear\, sturdy walking shoes\, and a torch (preferably with red light)\, and the ability to follow your guide’s instructions! \n*Photocredits: Simon Runting \nPlease follow the instructions of your guide\, and remain on the well-marked tracks. \nWe will take all practicable steps to provide a safe and fun conservation adventure.\nWe expect attendees to follow instructions\, and accept responsibility for their own health and safety\, to the best of their ability.
