SUMMARY:Save the Denniston Plateau - Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:PUBLIC MEETING\n  \nThe Denniston Plateau is a special place on the West Coast of the South Island. It is a unique ecological area with many species found nowhere else on Earth – including the recently discovered Avatar moth\, winner of the 2026 Bug of the Year competition. \n  \nUnfortunately\, underneath the wildlife lie seams of coal and there are plans to open-cast mine the Plateau\, in the process destroying much of this precious ecosystem. \n  \nWe will be showing the video “Save the Denniston Plateau” which highlights the natural beauty of the area and why it is so important to preserve. Following the video there will be an opportunity to hear about the campaign to Save Denniston Plateau from Forest & Bird Save Denniston Plateau Lead\, Scott Burnett with a Q&A session. \n  \nSupper will be provided.
