About this Event

80% of the world’s population live under light polluted skies. What do we lose when we lose sight of the stars? Excessive and improper lighting robs us of our night skies, disrupts our sleep patterns and endangers nocturnal habitats. Saving the Dark explores the need to preserve night skies and what we can do to combat light pollution.

Join us as we hear from Dark Sky Waiheke about the local context of protecting Aotearoa’s beautiful night views. Then sit back and enjoy the film, which features some fantastic view of the Milky Way, from the comfort of the couches.

This one-off screening of Saving the Dark is part of the community cinema’s EcoFest-themed film series on Tuesday nights across the festival. To make it easy and affordable, all films will have standard cinema pricing:

  • General Admission: $17
  • Concessions: $14 (With current NZ Student, Gold or CS cards).
  • Children 5-15y: $9 (Under 5’s free)
