DESCRIPTION:Update: Due to weather conditions\, this event has been cancelled. \nPlease follow Greenpeace and/or Forest & Bird directly for future updates. \nAlthough this event is cancelled\, our fight to stop bottom trawling continues. \nMore than ever\, it’s clear that protecting the ocean is going to be an election issue in 2026\, and it’s important we keep using our voice for change. \nTelling politicians directly that you want an end to bottom trawling is a powerful way to demonstrate strong public opposition to this destructive method of fishing. \nGreenpeace has created this tool to help you write to politicians. It’s quick and easy. \nStart your email here \n\nDespite a massive public mandate\, the NZ Government continues to allow bottom trawlers to bulldoze the seafloor of this precious Marine Park. \nJoin Greenpeace and Forest & Bird in sending an unmissable message to politicians in this election year: Ban bottom trawling now. \nA fleet of boats will sail from Okahu Bay to Oneroa\, joining a festival crowd for a day of joyful celebration\, aroha\, and protest. \nWhether you’re on a boat\, a kayak\, or joining us on the sand\, your presence matters. \nThe programme:\n📍 9am start for those sailing in the Flotilla which departs from Okahu Bay. Please register your boats!\n📍 1pm start for a fabulous beach festival at Oneroa beach\, Waiheke Island. There will be live music\, a BBQ\, and activities for all ages. \nLet’s create a powerful show of unity! Help us make some noise and create a colourful display in support of banning bottom trawling from our beautiful Tīkapa Moana. \nNote: the event’s rain date is 18th April.
