SUMMARY:Moth Plant Pod Competition 2026 - Howick
DESCRIPTION:The Howick Moth Plant Competition 2026\, led by Pest Free Howick\, is back for another year — and the community is once again invited to take action for te taiao. \nRunning from 2 March to 8 May 2026\, the competition challenges participants to help control moth plant\, one of Auckland’s most damaging invasive vines. By removing moth plant pods and seedlings\, participants directly protect native plants\, reduce future spread\, and support healthier ecosystems across the Howick area. \nThere are three competition categories: \n\n\nECE – early childhood centres enter as a whole \n\n\nSchools – primary and secondary schools enter as a whole \n\n\nCommunity – open to community teams of up to 10 people \n\n\nParticipants earn points by safely collecting moth plant pods and seedlings\, with all efforts contributing to a collective impact far greater than any one group could achieve alone. Along the way\, competitors learn how to identify moth plant\, understand why it’s a threat\, and see how small actions can lead to meaningful environmental change. \nWith $5\,000 in prizes up for grabs\, the competition is designed to be fun\, educational\, and empowering — turning weed control into a shared challenge that brings people together while making a real difference for native biodiversity in Howick.

SUMMARY:Collage an Artist Trading Card (ATC)
DESCRIPTION:Use found and recycled materials\, along with environmentally friendly home-made glue\, to create and trade Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) inspired by your interpretation of Journeys—both literal and metaphorical. This workshop and trading day sits alongside the Journeys We Have Travelled group exhibition at Lake House Art Centre\, where artworks made from recycled\, upcycled\, and repurposed materials explore similar themes and intentions. \nPick up a free ATC kit from the Lake House Art Centre café from Friday 13 March and pre-make your card(s)\, or use shared resources on the day to create your own on Sunday 22 March. You can drop completed cards into the exhibition from 13 March\, or join the community card swap on Sunday 22 March (10am–2pm)\, where everyday and abandoned materials are transformed into small\, meaningful works of art. Be inspired by creativity—and inspire creativity in others.
