About EcoFest
What is EcoFest?
EcoFest is a month-long celebration of the unique environment of Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, and how we care for it. Four Auckland eco hubs have come together to host the festival, offering events, activities, installations and workshops for people of all ages and at any stage of their sustainability journey. The aim is to make sustainability fun and accessible, inspiring people to make simple changes to reduce their impact on the environment.
When is EcoFest taking place?
EcoFest will take place from 22 March until 22 April (Earth Day) each year.
Who is behind EcoFest?
EcoFest is organised in collaboration by four eco hubs in Auckland: EcoMatters Environment Trust, Kaipātiki Project, the Beautification Trust, and Waiheke Resources Trust. These four non-profit organisations have a combined 90 years of experience in environmental action.
What kind of events will be taking place during EcoFest?
EcoFest will have a wide variety of events, activities, installations and workshops across the Auckland region and online. From composting workshops to silent disco clean-ups, the aim is to make sustainability fun and accessible. There will be events for people of all ages and at any stage of their sustainability journey.
Can I host an event as part of EcoFest?
Yes! We welcome applications from individuals, community groups and businesses who want to host events as part of EcoFest. Registrations for EcoFest 2025 are now closed. If you’re interested in joining us as an event host in 2026, please sign up here to stay in the loop.
Hosting an Event
Who can host an event as part of EcoFest?
Individuals, community groups, non-profit organisations and businesses are welcome to host events as part of EcoFest.
What kind of events can be hosted during EcoFest?
Events hosted as part of EcoFest can be in the form of activities, installations, workshops, and more, as long as they align with the theme of sustainability and environmental protection.
Is there a cost to register my event as part of EcoFest?
It is free to register your event as part of EcoFest. There may be direct costs involved in hosting your event, such as venue hire or materials, which are the responsibility of the event host.
How can I apply to host an event during EcoFest?
Registrations for EcoFest 2025 are now closed. If you’re interested in joining us as an event host in 2026, please sign up here to stay in the loop.
I have registered my event, how come it isn’t showing up on the website?
Once you register your event, your EcoFest Support Hub will check the details, approve the event and add it to the website. To get in touch with your EcoFest Support Hub:

Attending EcoFest Events
Is it free to go to an EcoFest event?
Mostly, yes! Some events are ticketed, but the majority of our events are completely free to attend. Those that have a cap on numbers may still ask you to register for free through a variety of methods (humanitix, Facebook RSVP, email). Please make sure to read the information about each event carefully.
Can I only go to an event in my area?
No, you are welcome and encouraged to attend any and all EcoFest events that you can make it to. We would love for you to connect with people across Tāmaki Makaurau.
Can I bring my kids to EcoFest events?
Many EcoFest events are whānau-friendly. Look for the ‘Whānau Friendly’ tag on events, and please contact the event organiser directly using the contact details on the event to check the age range if needed.
Does EcoFest cater for accessibility needs?
We encourage all event organisers to make their events as accessible as possible. You can filter the programme of events by a number of accessibility measures. Please contact the event organiser directly using the contact details on the event for further information if needed.
How can I help make EcoFest a success?
Please take part, tell your friends to come, and bring the whole whānau to our family-friendly activities. Afterwards, we would really appreciate if you could fill out our survey so that we know how to make EcoFest better, more inclusive and tailored to what our communities want.
