About this Event

Join us for a hands-on interactive exploration to discover what benthic invertebrate species live in the intertidal zone at  – Ōrangihina, Te Atatū Peninsula. We will collect valuable data on the biodiversity, distribution, and abundance of seashore species across time and space. We will also be discussing the connectivity of this space to the wai/water that flows from the upper catchment and how this might be impacting what we see now and in the future.
We will start on the green space next to the car park with a karakia and an introduction talk. We will then hīkoi out to the marine space to begin our survey. We will explore the tāhuna/tuangi shell banks and why they are important. We will end the event with drinks and snacks while we discuss what we found.
Bring along gumboots or other footwear you are happy to get muddy, a sunhat, a drink bottle, and a raincoat in case the weather changes.
Please no jandals or bare feet.
We will provide hand sanitiser, water, and sunscreen.
