About this Event

Join us for a hands-on interactive exploration of the Ōrangihina wetland in Te Atatū Peninsula. We will be discussing wetlands through an indigenous lens and using citizen science tools to understand the positive impact wetlands have on water quality and the rare species that inhabit them.

We will start on the green space next to the car park with a karakia and an introduction talk. We will then hīkoi to the first survey spot where the stream enters the wetland to collect and test water samples. We will then hīkoi to where the stream exits the wetland and repeat the tests to compare the samples taken at both sites. We will discuss the importance of wetlands and how we can protect them before finishing up with drinks and snacks.

Bring along gumboots or other footwear you are happy to get muddy, a sunhat, a drink bottle, and a raincoat in case the weather changes.
Please no jandals or bare feet.

We will provide hand sanitiser, water, and sunscreen.
