About this Event
Sorry this event has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Drop in during the Avondale Sunday Markets and help create a flock of Kuaka (Eastern Bar-tailed Godwits) inspired by the migratory birds that roost at Avondale Racecourse.
Whau the People, Avondale Racecourse Alliance and Whau Wildlink invite you to take part in a free, hands-on art workshop at the Avondale Sunday Markets. Choose a wooden Kuaka and decorate it using paint and collage materials. Every bird becomes part of a collective artwork celebrating local birdlife, creativity, and care for our environment.
Throughout the morning, short talks will share stories about the Kuaka and other birds that call the racecourse home, their epic journeys, and why these birds need protecting.
The completed Kuaka will later be installed along the Ash Street fenceline at Avondale Racecourse for a temporary public display, with additional birds heading to local schools to continue the story.
All ages welcome. No experience needed, just drop in and make a bird.
Cost: Free
