About this Event
Join Amanda (from Compost Collective & EcoMatters) at the University of Auckland’s Bee Sanctuary for a free composting workshop designed for Auckland Uni students and City Centre residents.
This beginner-friendly session focuses on Bokashi composting — a simple, low‑space system perfect for apartment and inner‑city living. You’ll learn how Bokashi works, how to manage food scraps easily in a small space, and how dropping off your filled Bokashi buckets at the Bee Sanctuary composting hub helps create nutrient-rich compost for local food-growing projects.
We’ll briefly touch on how the Bee Sanctuary uses systems like carbon cycle boxes to transform community food scraps into healthier soil and cleaner waterways and the development of banana swales on site. By doing Bokashi in your apartment, you’ll reduce your green waste, help improve the health of local waterways by keeping food scraps out of landfill, and connect with neighbours who care about sustainability and urban biodiversity.
