Exploring a Community Micro-grid on Waiheke

With the help of University of Waikato’s Ahuora Centre for Smart Energy Systems, Electrify Waiheke is exploring the potential for a micro-grid on the island. A network of connected electricity generators and consumers, a micro-grid creates savings by storing and sharing energy locally, reducing the total amount purchased from the national grid.

Dr Min Zhang from will present researchers’ progress on exploring what a community micro-grid for Surfdale would look like. Connecting community action with national expertise and academic insight, this is a great chance to engage in the cutting edge of what’s happening in the renewable energy space and how Waiheke is part of the larger conversation.

Powerhub representatives will also be there to present an option to buy electricity at near wholesale prices.
