Join us at the cinema for a special screening of the 2004 documentary Genesis, which asks the question of “where are we coming from?” Six years in the making, it is the second opus of the directors of Microcosmos, narrated by Sotigui Kouyaté.

Blending humor with seriousness, innocence with wisdom, an African griot uses the evocative language of myth and fable to relate the birth of the universe, the fiery beginnings of our planet and the evolution of life on earth — but this is a true story, the story of all of us. He tells us of time, matter, birth, love and death. Animals are the main players in this flamboyant, modern, yet timeless Genesis, which features beautiful imagery.

This event is part of Waiheke Community Cinema’s EcoFest series which explores our connection to the environment. Each one-off Tuesday night screening offers a chance to reflect, learn, and be moved to action—whether it’s rethinking our impact or deepening our appreciation for the planet.
