About this Event
Join us for a guided walk starting at Camp Adair, heading uphill through private bush before joining the Massey Cossey Loop Track in the Hūnua Ranges Regional Park, and continuing through native forest toward Hūnua Falls. This is a longer, immersive walk with a steady uphill section at the start, followed by formed tracks and a gradual descent toward the Hūnua Falls.
As we move along, we’ll take time to stop and look closely at the native plants and animals we encounter, learning how to identify common species and understand how they work together as part of the landscape. We’ll talk about the roles different plants, birds, and insects play, what they provide for the ecosystem and for people, and how these relationships support a healthy ngahere. There will also be kōrero acknowledging rongoā Māori, including the traditional healing knowledge associated with some native plants, and the ways this knowledge has supported wellbeing over time
At the end of the walk, a free shuttle will transport participants from Hūnua Falls back to Camp Adair, where we’ll wrap up the experience with a sausage sizzle back at camp and time to relax and reflect on the journey.
Please bring sturdy footwear, water, weather appropriate clothing, and a bit of curiosity.
