About this Event
Do you like tramping/hiking off the beaten track? Then this group is for you!
Friends of Taihinui Historical Reserve work in a beautiful mature bush area of Greenhithe, along the Hellyers Oruamo Escarpment. There are mature pohutukawa, a nikau grove, mature puriri, giant tanekaha, coastal kowhai and more. The trail into the reserve is informal & rough in places.
A good level of fitness is required for this group. Come and help the group remove & free our natives by removing elaeagnus, woolly nightshade, moth plant, and wild ginger. We’ve been removing these pest plants from the reserve for a couple of years & there is still a bit more to go! Your efforts are rewarded with stunning views of the inner Waitemata Harbour and being away from the sounds of the city, whilst basking under beautiful mature native bush – all in our backyard. Create new friendships and help nature thrive by Caring for Greenhithe’s environment.
