About this Event

Walking with Te Auaunga Oakley Creek is an opportunity to come and make friends with and beside Auckland’s largest urban freshwater catchment. Artists Xin Cheng, Adam Ben-Dror, and Rachel Ruckstuhl-Mann will guide you through an experience of listening, walking, caring, playing, and nourishing in relation to the awa, its overlapping ecologies, and each other.

We will provide some food gathered from the Wesley Market as well as our own gardens and foraging. Please feel free to bring your own picnic food to share.

Timing and what to expect:

09.45 am: Gathering at meeting point (refer to below)
10.00 am: Karakia, mihi/greetings, introduction to the event, guided meditation
10.20 am: Set off to the first location
10.30 am: Meet and care for the first location
11.15 am: Walk to the second location
11.30 am: Picnic set up, craft and play invitations
12.30 pm: Pack up and walk back
01.00 pm: Karakia whakamutunga

The meeting point is located at Brydon Place Reserve in New Windsor. We will then walk to Alan Wood Reserve for the second half of the activity.

What to bring:

Supported by Foundation North and CNZ, the Wesley Community Centre, Friends of Oakley Creek, Ngā Kaitiaki o Te Wai-unu-roa a Wairaka, as well as the artist’s whānau and wider communities of practice.
