About this Event

WilderFest is an annual celebration of the incredible efforts of local community groups and organisations dedicated to restoring Waiheke Island’s biodiversity. This whānau-friendly event is proudly brought to you by the Waiheke Collective.

The day promises a vibrant mix of educational stalls, inspiring talks, and hands-on activities, including workshops led by groups like the Waiheke Marine Project, Te Korowai o Waiheke, and the Waiheke Resources Trust. Plus, enjoy delicious offerings from local kai trucks and stalls—there’s something for everyone!

Exciting Highlights during Wilderfest:

  • Volunteer Resource Board for the community to discover how to get involved with local groups and organisations.
  • Auckland Council Sustainable Schools will offer an immersive VR experience, transporting participants into the fight to protect our precious kauri forests from dieback disease.
  • Charlie Thomas will lead an interactive workshop on native bird identification.
  • Pets of Waiheke and Animal Management will host a series of talks and a Q&A on responsible pet ownership tailored to island living.
  • Ethos Environmental will showcase real-world examples of how cutting-edge Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data integrations drive better conservation outcomes for our local ecosystems.
  • Kids’ activities, including mud-seed bomb-making, face painting, and native bird mask-making.
  • Radio Rebelde will bring the festival to a thrilling close with a live music performance at 3 PM—so don’t forget your dancing shoes!
