Park up inside Manurewa High School and visit Te Maara Kai o Wirihana to see what food security looks like in South Auckland!
With Rakaunui in the sky, we will be running a seed sowing workshop and Q+A on how to grow an abundant winter garden. Learn about the nearby Te Whakaoranga o te Puhinui, an epic intergenerational project focused on regenerating the ancestral stream of Te Puhinui.
About the Maara Kai
A 1.6 acre paddock located in the heart of Manurewa next to Manurewa High School and adjacent to Manukau Super Clinic is being transformed into a community and educational urban farm. Plans for the garden include an education garden, a productive market garden, a healing rongoa garden, a food forest, a worm farm and a community garden with communal and allotment areas to provide wholesome and nutritious food to the Manurewa community. This large community garden will nurture the community surrounding it, and be based on biodynamic, organic and Maatauranga Maaori practices, including rongoa (healing) and traditional Maaori planting practices, guided by Maramataka (the Maaori lunar calendar).
