Although this event is cancelled, our fight to stop bottom trawling continues.
More than ever, it’s clear that protecting the ocean is going to be an election issue in 2026, and it’s important we keep using our voice for change.
Telling politicians directly that you want an end to bottom trawling is a powerful way to demonstrate strong public opposition to this destructive method of fishing.
Greenpeace has created this tool to help you write to politicians. It’s quick and easy.
Despite a massive public mandate, the NZ Government continues to allow bottom trawlers to bulldoze the seafloor of this precious Marine Park.

A fleet of boats will sail from Okahu Bay to Oneroa, joining a festival crowd for a day of joyful celebration, aroha, and protest.
Whether you’re on a boat, a kayak, or joining us on the sand, your presence matters.
The programme:
📍 9am start for those sailing in the Flotilla which departs from Okahu Bay. Please register your boats!
📍 1pm start for a fabulous beach festival at Oneroa beach, Waiheke Island. There will be live music, a BBQ, and activities for all ages.
Let’s create a powerful show of unity! Help us make some noise and create a colourful display in support of banning bottom trawling from our beautiful Tīkapa Moana.
